Salt and Light

One of my favorite bible verses is in Matthew chapter 5 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.  14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

We are Christians all the time and the Bible tells us to shine God’s light wherever we go.  We have to look at all the places we go and all the people we meet as our opportunities to reflect Jesus.  Jesus is the source of our light and we are reflections of His light. Just as the moon reflects the glory of the sun, we are to reflect the Son’s light.  We need to be consistent with our actions and lead by example.  Are you different around different groups of people?  God calls us to be that light wherever we are in the world, all  the time, not just when it’s easy or convenient or comfortable for us.  Remember that Jesus is not our “religion”. We are in a “relationship” with a loving, living Savior who can and does transform lives.  He not only gives us the gift of eternal life, but also the abundant life while here on planet earth. Jesus wants to add some seasoning to our bland life.  Let’s shine our lights and pour out some salt on those who need to taste and see that the Lord is good.
