Walking in the Light

…if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

The sun is shining in Cleveland!!!!!!  Can you feel the difference the light makes?  I wake up feeling happier, freer, more interested in talking and being with other people, more patient (OK that might be stretching it), and certainly more ALIVE.

God’s light promises to bring these things to us even in the midst of darkness – physical, spiritual, emotional.  This alive feeling we have in the summer mirrors the aliveness that God wants to bring us all year round.  Notice that the scripture says that when we are in the light, Jesus’ blood washes us clean of our sins.  Our sins create the darkness in our lives.

Sometimes we don’t even realize we are covered in the filth of sin.  The sins of this world are so sneaky.  They get into us without us even knowing they are there, but they weigh us down.  They filter God’s brilliance and they shadow us from the light He pours out on us continuously.  They wilt us under the pressure of darkness.

Taking time with the Lord convicts us of our sin.  That’s why we often don’t slow down enough to hear His voice, to let His scriptures penetrate our hearts, to feel His touch.  We want the light, we want to feel alive, but we don’t want to see the darkness that we are creating.  You just can’t have it both ways.

Take time today to sit in the brilliant light of God’s mercy.  Let Him shine His light into your darkness.  Confess your sins and be cleansed.  Live ALIVE this summer!!!!
